Your Digital Signage Is Costing You Listings

We’ve all had that experience.

You’re driving through a town you don’t know, looking for a place to stop. Maybe you’re hungry. Maybe you need something specific. And then you see it…

A storefront that just feels off.

Dirty windows. A broken sign. Flickering letters. An outdated look that hasn’t been touched in years.

You don’t need a checklist. You just know.

You keep driving.

Unless you’re desperate or you have inside information that it’s actually good on the inside, you’re not stopping.

I run into this all the time when my wife and I are traveling.

Now, I’m fine with a little mystery. I’ve got a strong stomach and a high tolerance for “we’ll see how this goes.”

My wife? Not so much.

She does not like to “live dangerously” when it comes to food.

So what happens?

We pass right by places that look questionable. Every time.

We keep going until we find something that clearly signals:

Safe. Clean. Trustworthy.

(Or we end up grabbing snacks at a clean looking gas station)

Here’s the point most business brokers miss:

Even if you don’t have a physical office…

You still have signage.

It’s just digital now.

The Digital Version of a Broken Sign

Your “storefront” today is:

  • Google search results
  • Your LinkedIn profile
  • Your website
  • Your BizBuySell profile
  • Your content

That’s what sellers see before they ever speak to you.

And they are making decisions based on it.

Quietly.

Ask yourself:

Is your business easy to find? Does it look current… or outdated? Does your content feel intentional… or thrown together? Do you look like a specialist… or like you’re trying to be everything to everyone?

Because to a seller, those signals matter.

A lot.

The Real Question

When someone “drives by” you online…

Do you look like a place worth stopping?

Or something to pass by?

What Happens When They Do Stop

Let’s say they click.

They land on your website. They check your profile. They look at your content.

Now what?

Are the shelves stocked?

Or does it feel empty… or stale?

This Is How Humans Decide

We like to think we’re logical.

We’re not.

We are visual, pattern-recognition machines wired for one primary job:

Assess safety and risk.

And while no one is getting eaten by a tiger on LinkedIn…

The brain is still asking:

Is this safe? Is this credible? Can I trust this person?

If the answer isn’t obvious…

They move on.

What You Actually Need to Build

You need digital signage at three levels:

1. The Highway

What people see on Google

2. The Storefront

Your profiles and social presence

3. Inside the Store

Your content and authority

Each layer needs to signal the same thing:

Clarity. Credibility. Trust.

The Bottom Line

Before a seller ever speaks to you…

They’ve already decided how credible you look.

Your digital presence is either:

Inviting them in Or pushing them away

There is no neutral.

Final Thought

The best brokers aren’t just good at transactions.

They look like the obvious choice before the conversation even starts.

That’s not luck.

That’s intentional.
